Who's that girl?

Silje is a quirky-happy-funny-sad artist and songwriter currently living in Oslo. Often compared to Regina Spektor, Joni Mitchell, Björk and Tori Amos, she also collects inspiration from scandinavian folk music, fjord disco and 90's indie rock.

Born and raised in a town called Steinkjer in Norway, Silje spent a lot of time growing up inside books, in the forest, and by the piano. Clever enough but sort of an outsider, she decided it was a good idea to move to Liverpool to get better at drinking beer and talking to people. She also picked up a music degree, and honed her songwriting and performance skills on the picky audience in the clubs of Beatlestown. Then she found the love of her life and moved with him back to Norway, to Oslo, where she plays her music to people, does a weirdly large amount of covering Bob Dylan (for random reasons and a touch of love for his music), and teaches music to surprisingly nice kids.

Silje's music is a heady, pop-based tincture spiced with some folky flavors, a pinch of rock and a touch of soul. Strong, expressive vocals, storytelling lyrics and fluid melodies, all backed by whatever keyboard instrument was closest to hand at the time of the crime.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bio, Silje Karlsen:

Silje vokste opp i skogen, i bokhylla og ved pianoet i hjembyen Steinkjer. Nesten voksen pakket hun alt i en container og sendte seg selv, bøkene og tangentene til Liverpool for å lære å drikke øl og spille live på mørke buler for et kresent publikum i Beatletown. De siste åra har hun bodd i Oslo og jobbet med mange ulike musikalske prosjekter. Forrige singelutgivelse var i 2010, da låta I Don’t Care if you’re Beautiful fikk en prisvinnende musikkvideo samt A-listeplass på P1 i hjemfylket. Nå er Silje tilbake med en sommervarm nostalgipoplåt kalt When We Were Younger.

Silje spiller alt med tangenter på (den “nyeste” yndlingen er en analogsynth som er nesten akkurat like gammel som henne selv) og leverer vokal som er blitt sammenlignet med bl.a. Regina Spektor, Joni Mitchell, Björk og Duffy. Musikken henter også mye fra disse damene, i tillegg til folkemusikk, skandinavisk elektronika og 90-talls indierock.
